Steel Buildings

Much more popular in building construction steel is now used extensively. Both commercial and residential structures are built using steel. With introduction of cold formed steel this technology has gathered momentum.

This technology offers scope of wide variety of designs, floor plan, models and layouts. Buildings made of metal require much less site preparation the conventional techniques. There is no need to excavate and our large amount of cement to lay the foundation. Metal buildings are constructed using ports and tussles. Deep posts provide stability to the structures. These posts have tremendous vertical and lateral bearing strength.

Due to these positive factors steel construction is gaining ground all over the World.

Cold Formed Steel

When thin gauges of steel are rolled into desired shapes and size the product is cold formed steel. The process involves pressing, rolling and stamping in order to get the require shape.

The light gauge steel is used in construction industry in India on wider scale. It also finds usage in manufacture of durable products and in the automobile industry.

Steel Building Construction and benefits

For building construction the cold-formed steel shapes commonly manufactured from steel plate, sheet metal or strip material at room temperature. This is done by press braking or cold roll forming. This process brings change in the properties of the materials

Sustainable Construction History

The first usage of this technology took place in USA and UK in the fifties. Since then the CFS members have found usage in buildings, grain bins rail coaches, bridges, storage racks, car bodies, transmission towers and poles, and many other types of equipments.

In India this has come about as recent introduction and growing in popularity. The design specification :IS:80. The Indian standard code of practice for light gauge steel structural members by Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi in the year 1975.

Steel Construction in India

Light gauge cold formed steel construction in India is growing fast. Due to its advantages in building construction and superior quality many Government sectors and institutions going in for large construction have begun to prefer CFS.

The advantages of this technology is obvious along with its green effect. The big companies in building contractors in India have moved into this technology. As the awareness increases the use of light gauge steel members will increase rapidly in the country. The initial thrush has come from Government Sector in various states of India.

Prefabricated Structures

Prefabricated steel structures made of light gauge steel are much in use. These are being used in India as well as all over the World. The construction takes using factory built members and components. Hence this is also known as prefabricated building construction.

The parts are assembled and fitted on the construction site after transportation from the manufacturing units. Complex modern designs are being used with the implementation of this technology.

Plus points of Prefab Construction

Self-supporting ready-made components used form work, shuttering and scaffolding.
Quick On site construction.
Ease in Quality control.
Less wastage.
Usage of advanced materials to improve air tightness, thermal and sound insulation.
Reducing Construction time.
Prefabrication cost benefits.
